Preventing, Eliminating and Erasing Rejection in Our Schools

In 1998, students age 12 to 13 years, were victims of more than 2.7 million total crimes at school (Kaufman et al., 2000).  Further, these students, while at school, were victims of approximately 253,000 serious nonfatal violent crimes.  Between July 1, 1997 and June 30, 1998, there were 60 school-associated violent deaths in the United States; included were 47 homicides.  Of the 47 homicides, 35 were of school-age children (Kaufman et al.).
